Your private
world of
luxury

A 1742 lake palace in the Aravalli hills, restored for eighty-eight guests at a time.

A lake palace seen through an ornate carved archway

The lake from the Rani’s jharokha

A private world, framed

Built in 1742 so a queen could watch the monsoon arrive, unseen.

Meghvana's jharokhas — the carved stone windows that once let the zenana see the world without being seen — still frame every view. We restored the palace stone by stone, kept its forty-one jharokhas and its lake, and added a quiet pavilion wing in teak and sandstone. Eighty-eight rooms and suites; never more than one guest per window.

Ostrelle is named for the warm southern wind that carries the monsoon inland. At Meghvana it arrives across the lake every evening, at the hour the lamps are lit.

  1. 06:00 Morning: Mist on the lake, the first bells from the island temple. Yoga on the ghats, or simply the jharokha and a blanket. (Raga Bhairav, the raga of dawn)
  2. 08:30 Breakfast: Breakfast where you like it — in bed, in the courtyard, or on your terrace: kachori, fresh paneer, masala chai brewed in brass. (Raga Bilawal, for the bright morning)
  3. 11:00 Pool: The lake-edge pool before anyone else wakes up to it. Cold towels, cut fruit, a cabana and the hills. (Raga Todi, for the late morning)

  6. 18:30 Sunset: Godhuli — the cow-dust hour. The palace turns the colour of saffron, and the warm wind Ostrelle is named for comes across the water. (Raga Marwa, the raga of sunset)
  7. 20:30 Dinner: A table on the lake terrace, a Manganiyar singer, laal maas cooked the old way. Or Sheesh, where the mirrors take the candlelight. (Raga Yaman, for the first hours of night)
  8. 23:30 Night: The palace lit on black water. A last cardamom milk on the terrace; the jasmine opens; the lake keeps the lamps until morning. (Raga Darbari, the raga of the court)

A day at Meghvana

Twenty-four hours, by the ragas of the day.

Hindustani music gives every hour its own raga. We plan the palace day the same way: morning to night, each moment in its own light.
